Dear Members/Friends of Augustana;

About five years ago, I began the process of writing daily devotions, which are based on the Gospels. During my interim training, I was introduced to the “Lambeth Study”, which comes from Africa. That week we were given a passage each day and our assignment was to center on one thought that was presented in the passage. In the Lambeth Study, the reader reflects on that thought and uses it for their meditation throughout the day. We were encouraged to write down our thought and reflections.

After my week of interim study, I continued the practice and wrote out my thoughts each day on a given passage. It became a new spiritual discipline for me. I had read before about pastors who had written devotionals and used the internet for distribution through web sites/e-mails and thought intrigued me. That is how I began writing my devotionals. To date, I have written devotionals on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. I am now currently working on the Book of Acts.

As a means for daily Bible reading and study, I offer my devotionals as a guide. This current year our Gospel readings for Sunday worship are based on Matthew’s Gospel. My devotional for you is Matthew’s Gospel. It will consist of reading one chapter a week. Included is prayer concerns and remembering our members in our prayers.

I pray that God will bless us as we study and reflect on his Word together in our daily journey.

Pastor Giese,

Interim Pastor
