 Board of Education Profile Study

 

The Mission of the Education Committee of Augustana Lutheran Church is to provide an opportunity for all ages to study, learn and grow in their Christian faith.

 

Sunday School:

-3 year olds through 9th  grade

Pre-School – 7th  Grade (46 students)

-Witness materials are used

-The Small Catechism to study the Apostles Creed and the Lords Prayer

-Story telling and crafts once a month

8th and 9th  Grade (11 students):

-The Luther Small Catechism with Explanations is used

-Studying the Old and New Testaments, The 10 Commandments, and the Lords Prayer --Sunday school curriculum for all grades

Opening before Sunday School,

-Offering, announcements, music, prayer, morning devotions

Communion education classes for 5th- 6th  grade -optional

Vacation Bible School (3 yr. olds – 6th  grade):

-Community event with St. Willibrord Catholic Church 2nd  week in June, 3 nights Confirmation (8th  & 9th  grade):

-The confirmation class meets Wednesday nights.

 

Events:

Rally Sunday Bibles presented to 5th  graders; in October Souper Bowl Sunday 8th  grade; Acolyte Training – 7th grade;  Sunday School students sing during church services;     Pre-school – 6th grade;  Mentors — Confirmation students during Lent;

 Friendship Sunday - 9m grade;  Christmas Program - directed by 9th grade, ages Pre-school – 8th grade

 

Goals:

-Provide a room for each Sunday school class.

-Have a more consistent attendance for Sunday school students

-Have the Pastor involved in the Sunday school classes.

-To continue to keep the programs we have.

-Have articles written up for newsletter from Sunday school teachers or Superintendent  

  on Sunday school activities.

-To have some "intergenerational" activities with the church members.

-Have fundraisers to help out with expenses for Vacation Bible school and Sunday school

 materials.

-Have a more consistent material for confirmation classes.

-To continue to have a good thematic Vacation Bible school.

-To concentrate more on Sunday school curriculum.

-Get students more involved in singing, playing piano during Sunday church services.

-To have traditional Christmas programs. (Nativity play, readings and songs.)
