On this page the term Dom is used for a Dominant of either sex, that is, for Dom or Domme. Likewise Master is used for Master or Mistress.

Who Sits Where
in a D/s Room

Where should I sit in a D/s room, and does it matter?

Where you sit helps everyone to know who you are -- Dom or sub.   Doms occupy the top row.   The lower 3/5 of the room (more or less) is sub territory.

I see subs up there sometimes, though.

The two subs marked (1) and (2) are there at the invitation of the Doms they are with, presumably their Masters.

The row just below "Dom Row" is commonly occupied by subs sitting at their Masters' feet, or by Doms who don't find room above, so the polite thing is for other subs not to sit there.   Sitting at a Dom's feet when not invited is very poor form.

A Dom will sometimes sit in the sub area, either because Dom Row is filled, or to join with his own sub.

How rigid are these "zoning ordinances"?

The "no subs on top" rule is firm -- any sub up there either is a maverick or doesn't know any better.   The rest are guidelines that a good sub should follow, but not everyone always does.

Oh, and visitors may sit anywhere.   After all, they aren't expected to know the customs.
