Gray's Notes for Virtual Places Newbies (and Others)

Sharing a PC

What and Why:

If you share your PC with another VP user (spouse, roomie, alter ego) and your VP personalities differ, then you, like boobs and butterfly below, may have agreed not to fill out the ID Card, rather than to re-type all that stuff each time, or each be embarrassed by your PC-mate's text.

This is a shame, because a well-devised card can define your Virtual Self and provide icebreakers for conversation. It can also tell others what you'd like to discuss, and to do (or not do). Fortunately, there's a simple way that each can save a separate VP "personality".

How:

The information that defines your VP personality, including all the info on your ID Card, is in a text file VPlaces.ini in the folder VPlaces.   So Boobs fills out the ID Card, and then after leaving VP she creates a folder Boobs inside the VPlaces folder.  She then copies the file VPlaces.ini into this new folder.

Then when Boobs uses VP after Butterfly, Boobs can simply copy her own version of VPlaces.ini back.  And of course, Butterfly can similarly preserve her version.

Making It Easy:

SetGray     Of course, the copying takes a little time.   Wouldn't it be neat to do the change by just clicking an icon on your desktop, like the one at left?   That can be arranged.   It takes a little setting up, but if you haven't done this sort of thing before, you may learn something.   For step-by-step instructions click here.
